The other of the symmetrical pair at the Fforde Grene. It's an unusual feature, I guess, that the courtier 'logo' can face right or left - in contrast to the Tetley Huntsman who invariably faces to his right.

Evidence of Melbourne outside Leeds - this is from 'the Boy and Barrel' in Bradford city centre. (not my photo)

This is very much a 'work in progress' - more to come-watch this space!

To answer your earlier points Munki:Was this thelogo? Was it always just the logo, or did it sometimes have words with it? As far as I am aware this is the only 'logo' Melbourne ever used - but I don't know when or why it was adopted - perhaps there is some info in Tetleys archives.I've only seen a 'slogan' used with the sign once - on the Leodis website there is a photo of the long demolished Sussex tavern in Burley where the Courtier Logo has the slogan " A sure sign of good beer" written above and below it.(on a painted sign on the side of the building):http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... SPLAY=FULL - I wonder if an example of this slogan still exists somewhere? The only other slogan Melbourne seem to have used is the unimaginative 'Another Melbourne House'

I'm pretty sure this is one. At first I thought it was for Force Wheatflakes, as they were advertised by a character called Sunny Jim who had a peruke like the Melbourne chap. Someone pointed out to me that it's a Melbourne ad though.Could do with someone giving a lick of paint before it's gone altogether.

Thanks for that rikj - I have a picture of this myself ( I think it was me that originally pointed out it was a melbourne sign on Flickr - but I may be mistaken)This and the Palace sign (see below) are , as far as I know, the only painted wall sign of Melbourne's that survives. Its debatable whether it should be re-painted though as it wouldn't be original then. I remember 20 odd years ago the sign was much clearer -its deteriorated alarmingly in the last few years. Incidentally the wording reads " ROSE & CROWN" "Another MELBOURNE House"the words 'Another' and 'House' are particularly difficult to make out.Happily the Rose and Crown has recently reopened after several months of closure - this picture shows one of the windows. The entrance of the 'Rosy' has a superb mosaic floor , presumably done by the same people that created the Melbourne mosaics that survive; but as it has no 'Melbourne' branding I have put my photo of it in the 'signs of Old Leodis thread' rather than here.[ Now closed and converted to commercial premises]

The other surviving Melbourne window at the Rose and crown - Note the leaded lights at the top which portray a Crown with a Rose entwined - where would you find something like that these days??

Does this also turn up on off licenses, or was it only pubs? And yes, I don't think re-painting would be a good idea, but it would be nice if they were stabilised so they don't deteriorate further.
