A further trawl around the webs suggest the 4th White Cloth Hall was on the site of the Metropole. Built by the railway after the bisection of the third white cloth hall. So the Leodis caption for the 4th cloth hall is possibly wrong.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4th_White_Cloth_HallI can't find a pic of the 4th cloth hall.

Cardiarms wrote: According to Leodis the cupola at the top of the hotel is from the fourth white cloth hall. Perhaps the door is too?http://www.leodis.org/display.aspx?reso ... SPLAY=FULL     Could be right, Cardiarms. I was looking at a Leodis pic of the old Infirmary the other day, and noticed the comment about the pillar. I got the impression it meant a gate pillar, but could be wrong. As well as being a different colour/finish, that back door does look like an afterthought, tacked onto the back of the Metropole. It's also suffered a bit of subsidence, by the look of it. It just doesn't look like it was designed for where it is, especially with that awkward sloping roof behind it. There's been some sort of repair work too, as there is a bit of modern brick-work on it's side. Where the pediment is chipped at the top, the material underneath the red finish looks like stone, not terracota - maybe another clue?

Well here is the pi$$erThere is an old print of the 4th White Cloth Hall that appeared on sale on the web some time ago.Im sure i copied it and place it on a "What and Where" competition, related to the cupola ie"Where does the cupola on this building now belong?"Some clever so and so got it straight away.Trouble is i cant find the competition and there is no trace of the print on sale on the net.

Excellent, and that matches the Leodis pic of the building being demolished which must have been in two phases 20 odd years apart. I like the hanging sheep on the weather vane in the print, but unfortunately no owls.

...and for comparison, the hall during demolition. The cupola appears to have already been removed.

The cupola, now on the Metropole. Unless the artist's impression (above) has been embellished somewhat, it's missing some of it's fancier bits these days.

Speaking of old cupolas, the clock tower from the recently demolished Crompton Parkinson factory in Netherfield Road, Guiseley has been re-erected in a car park nearby. I'll try and get a picture. It also appears that work has restarted on the housing development that occupies the former factory's site, which came to a grinding halt when the credit-crunch hit.
