That would have been good 'arry, but I didn't put that quite clearly enough - I lived for a few years in Argie Terrace but now live in Queenswood Drive - but I'm sure if you ask the nice driver on the 49 to nip round via Eden Drive and St. Ann's Lane he/she will oblige with a smile - and gnashing teeth

I have just typed 10 lines or so in answer and I lost it allwhen the screen went blank! Bluddy laptops agen! Keep hitting odd keys and scrubbing everything GRRR!What I was rambling about was the fact that the missus and I go tothe Dentist on Kirkstall Rd that was Moran's (Now W South).and we used to cut thru from Burley Rd via the Argies. Sorry you have flitted! Used to go to the Queenswood Social Club for a whilelate 6o's,but First night our gang from Greenbat won a bottle ofwhisky a rabbit and a turkey on the fur and feather, plusthe main full house (£1o)on their bingo! we weren't really welcomeafter that so didn't bother to use our Affiliation much!Did you know Wilf English who was a Chief Insp on LCT?My wife and his good wife (Annie) worked together at the Raynville Co-op in the 70's. They are both deceased now and we had toclear out their house when Annie died.Among the bric-a-bracwas Wilf's Inspectors hat which we passed on to OXFAM withother stuff. Never thought of giving it to the Bus Co!It wouldn't fit me!!Can't imagine any of the present day bus pongos takinga detour up Queenswood for us,can you? Some of theolder driver are very good still.of course.Cheers,Arry

Yes I do remember Wilf English - small world isn't it ??    Somewhere in my souvenirs I'm sure I have a letter from him confirming that my application to go "inside" had been approved - I don't mean up Armley Road, I mean to transfer to being a garage inspector I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure he was related to Laurie English who had a highly successful career with LCT, becoming in the end Chief Traffic Officer - Laurie has passed away fairly recently I think.I was also briefly a member of Queenswod Social Club in the 70s, but didn't go there very often, although it is a nice club - they have the election voting there these days - June 4th next.

Mebbe wrong.I have a feeling that Laurie English was Wilf's brother but can't be certain. I know Wilf was very kind to us in the 70's when I was ill,and took us in his car, out in the Dales. Great guy!

Yes indeed 'arry, Wilf was a very unassuming quiet man, but greatly respected, and I liked him very much. If I've time soon I'll look for that letter and copy it for you as a souvenir.Good news on your other item - far from being closed, the Queenswood Social Club is a thriving facility with lots going on all the time - a chap in this block of flats is the secretary and works very hard for the Club.

Can't upload at work, but I noticed there is a great new mural that has been uncovered at the corner of Bond Street and Lower Basinghall Street. It's a tile sign advertising som kind of pottery. Only just uncovered after some workmen had been doing stuff there int he last week or so. If anyone is handy with a camera its a good one to post!

Two cracking pictures have just surfaced on Leodis - that I thought you all would like to see-This fantastic pic shows the end of the New Peacock on Elland Road with a BYB sign. I've never seen one like this - it appears to have a 'cavalier' type character, (like the one McEwan's use), saying "OYEZ! There's no better Beer than BYB"I don't know if they used this 'cavalier' much - I've never seen it before - it certainly never became an icon like Tetley's huntsman or Melbourne's courtier. To add yet more interest to this pic - in the foreground is Hunslet Cricket Clubs ground, which was on the opposite side of Lowfields Rd to the Football ground.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.
