Its definitely "ProviNCIAL" Tasa. The Provincial Building Society had large offices in Leeds and Bradford.I really love these old sign remnants - they are like a determined effort somehow by the past not to be forgortten, and when you consider the events (World wars etc) that have taken place since they were painted it "don't arf make you think !!."
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Yes - it must be 'Provincial'. A google query shows that the are recors in the National Archive for a 'Leeds Provincial' building society from 1849 to 1949. presumably it amalgamated with or was taken over by another building society after that.wish I could make out that word between 'home' and 'safe' it looks like ??tes or even ?ates but I cant think of a word that fits!! perhaps something to do with 'rates'????
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Those dates are interesting Drapesy - my first job on leaving school was with a fire insurance office in Leeds (The Century) and the PROVINCIAL BUILDING SOCIETY in Leeds and Bradford were agents for us in a very big way. This, however, was in September 1952 and was still the case when I left to go on the buses in October 1957. I imagine that it was the same society, perhaps founded in Leeds and expanding to other places, and accordingly dropping the "Leeds" in 1949 ??

Was in Otley on Thurs, first time in nearlya year and found they have put up some greatpictured signs marking where things were in the olddays. I know this isn't Leodis, but Otley doescome under the Leeds heading now(!).This depicts the area opposite Wharfemeadowsover the river, between the bridge and Garnets factory(Mill Lane?).Hope you can read the descriptive!

Sorry, the narrative isn't really readable,so I'll try and remember!(Well, It WAS 2 days ago!)The area was used on sunny days by the young mumsof the era to show off their little darlings in their prams!Breastfeeding in public was taboo, hence, out camethe Tittybottles at 'lunchtime'!Sup up lads(and lasses)!
