As you went up Harehill Lane from the Shaftsbury, there were rows of houses on the lefthand side at rightangles to Harehills Lane and on one of then there was a sign, painted I believe, announcing the services of a Mr Gahan, a plumber if I remember rightly, whose son was at college with me. Can it still be there or have the houses been pulled down? The Nowell streets?

This isn't actually in Leeds - but it's of a Leeds brewery - and its days might be numbered - so I thought I'd snap it while i can. Not easy to get to at present (behind a large awning) hence the strange angle.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

The Prospect on the junction of Elland Road and Church Street in Morley was a Duttons house - it's now the premises of an insurance broker.I must admit I hadn't realised that Duttons was a Leeds Brewery - I thought they were from Blackburn.BYB, Duttons, and Whittakers were all taken over in the sixties by Whitbread thus reducing choice very greatly in the West Riding. Whitbread closed the Prospect - presumably because it was opposite the former BYB Nelson - rationalisation I suppose. BTW is it the Coach and Six at Birstall?

You're right on 2 counts trojan - the sign is at Birstall. Also Duttons wasn't a Leeds firm originally - but they took over the Kirkstall brewery and their estate of pubs of course.

The Star and Garter at Kirkstall was a Duttons house, and didn't the Brewery have a huge advert for Mackeson stout? Or have I imagined that.I'm sure I heard somewhere that the Fountain in Morley used to be a Kirkstall pub, but all my life it's been Sam Smiths. My dad used to drink there and organise the annual p!ss up trip.
