Apart from the middle 'oil which wasi n Churwell anyway I'm not sure that there was a Melbourne house in the centre of Morley although I think South Queen Street Working Mens Club used to advertise that they sold it. In the centre of Morley there were only two Tetleys pubs, the Sycamore and the Brunswick. The rest were John Smiths apart from the Fountain which was Sam Smiths and the Borough Arms (Slip) which was Ind Coope

I took this picture in the Palace today.I know the 'vaults' can mean a cellar but I've seen this sign(years ago) in many old pubs which were sectioned off into several small rooms

I've been wondering that. It was just before my beer drinking days that Tetleys took them over. If they can recreate Barnsley Bitter surely they can recreate Melbourne. There's Hemingways as well!

If the recipes were still available it might be an interesting venture for some emerging micro-brewery(Leeds?) to try and recreate a taste of the past.

Tetleys might have the recipes in their archives?

I knew that the Haddon hall was an old Melbourne House - and has some windows with courtiers that I posted earlier in the thread. But I only just found out about this -for several years the door into the tap room was locked and unused - but the pubs had a bit of a shake-up recently which involved opening up the tap room again and using the door directly into it - and this little beauty was hiding there all the time!!!Quite different to the Cranmer bank mosaic[ see page 2 of this thread] - I love the tourquoise background.I believe, though I've never seen it that there was at least one mosaic floor courtier at the Shaftesbury - can anyone confirm this?I hope I can get a pic of it before it's lost forever.    [Haddon Hall is being converted to commercial premises(2010) - dont know if the mosaic will survive]

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

A long, long time a go an old work mate who was old enough to remeber Melbourne Ales told me when I was just a lad that when Tetleys bought Melbourne Ales they kept Tetleys Mild but nicked Melbourne bitter as this was better than the Tetleys at the time. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I drove past this last week and there seemed to be a *lot* of demolition going on inside the Tetley site.I thought the proposal to move Tet's out and build apartments had fallen through. 8-((
We wanted to make Leeds a better place for the future - but we're losing it. The tide is going out beneath our feet.
