A bit of top class detective work there Si - when I think of how often I used to conduct and drive the buses past there, and I've no idea whether or not the mosaic was visible in those days - "must try harder" as the teachers used to say !!

This was recently uncovered at the newsagent on Harrogate Road at Chapel Allerton that closed a few weeks ago.Already been taken down and disappeared.Anyone remember it as being owned by the proprietor mentioned on the sign?

I remember Mr Ford. I was only primary school age then- he had this shop for many many years, as was usual at that time. The shop to the right, on the other side of the alley ,which has been a bookies for many years, was a children's clothes shop- selling the 'Ladybird' brand as I remember. On the opposite side of Harrogate road was an old fashioned sweetshop called 'Cliffords'.

Well spotted LS1. The sign will have been hidden for very many years as I recall that the Yorkshire Evening News ceased in the early 1960's. It was the newspaper our house got rather than the Yorkshire Evening Post.
