Now that I've got your attention......There's a stand of trees inside a small steel fence in the centre of Middleton Circus. There are two small stone walls in this enclosure that seem to have been part of something larger. I find this intriguing, this structure must have had some significance to someone to warrant fencing it in like this. It's clearly quite old. I've looked on Leodis but drawn a blank. Was it part of the old mine workings and preserved as a memento? Was it part of the original Blenkinsop railway? From what I can glean, none of the mines were particularly close to Middleton Circus. The older ones were somewhere in the middle of where the housing estate is now and Broom pit was down Newhall Road. Can anybody shed any light on what this might be?

Apparently quite a lot less these days. After I'd tramped up there lugging me box brownie as well. You sure they're not Roman or something? Does it have to be such a dull solution?Munki or dsco, you might want to drag this over to 'Lost Loos of Leeds'.

Hi Martyn - cracking thread title by the way, good work Certainly did get my attention.Sorry though, can't move this to Lost Loos, cos LL is a thread not a section. The system doesn't let you append threads to other threads - though I must admit it would be rather useful at times.Cheers, dsco
