hi there guys and gals i was told about a village in some woods near adle and i was unsure wether to believe him or not so i thought i would do some rasearch on this and can not find anything!he told me its a full village with roads and a school etc ???it was when he showed me pictures that i got really intrested! can anyone shed some light on this for me please? thanks

ermm... i dont know i only just signed up to ask. surly someone knows the answer to this? i have searched and it has been on my mind slightly for months!

There is stuff on here already about this. Not a village, but have a hunt around the net and there is a bit of information. I wouldn't advise going inside though, liable to be shut in there if you do!

I wonder if you mean Eccup. The ecclesiastical parish of Adel used to be Adel cum Eccup and Eccup was much bigger in the 1930s than it is now. There was a primary school intil the mid 1940s and a Village Institute, owned by Adel church. The village was one of the last to get electricity and mains water in Leeds. Ironically it was Eccup reservoir that caused the village's decline. Leeds Council as the owner of the Waterworks had a policy of demolishing houses as they became vacant. The council bought the village from the Harewood estate after it was put for auction to pay death duties after the death of the previous Earl of Harewood in the late 1940s.Now there are only nine houses in the village plus a pub.

Or I suppose it could be the YTV Emmerdale set on the Harewood estate.

Don't know if people are still looking at this post but the abandoned village in adel is just next to eastmoor secure unit, it has a chapel, school and swimming pool etc.
