Apologies if this has been covered beforeCan I recommend the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society's excellent 2nd Edition of their "The Building Stone Heritage of Leeds" by Francis Dimes and Murray Mitchell (isbn 1 870737 10 5)Details of how to get a copy here: http://www.leedsphilandlit.org.uk/publi ... mlFabulous book full of illustrations describing the stone used to construct much of the city fine buildings, where it was sourced (and why it was selected) and a lot about the architectual detail. There are also four walks around the city with detailed notes:1. The Civic Buildings2. Commercial Buildings (1) - Park Row3. Commercial Buildings (2) - City Square to The Headrow via King Street and East Parade4. Shop Fronts Leeds

Thanks for that grumpytramp. Leeds is very much a city whose shape has been forged in stone. It isn't just the buildings, but the whole fabric of the city. Paving slabs, bridges, cobbled roads etc.Is there also another book, "Good Houses Built of Stone"? Maybe more general than Leeds.Would be very interesting to relate individual quarries in Leeds to the buildings that used the stone.
