SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

Hi folks - new on here, and loving it BTW....Was walking out of the park at the entrance by the Library bar t'other day, and spotted an old (maybe Victorian?) structure to the right of the (groundskeepers?) house. Luckily there was a guy leaving the house whilst I was there, so interrogation commenced. He told me (briefly 'cos he was in a hurry) that it was originally a police station/jail for the policing and locking up of miscreants in the park. Also told me that if I came back sometime, he would let me have a wee look - sez it's all just council storage now, but one would have thought there would be at least some form of architectural splendour involved inside. I recently had my digi-cam stolen (hey, I live in happy ole Woodhouse!), and have to rely on my mobile at the moment, but will see what I can do...Anyone else know anything about this?Strikes me that they'd need a whole prison WING these days for such purposes.

There's a pic of it on pg2 of the Disused Police Stations thread;http://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messag ... e=25chomic, it's not quite in the area you've circled, it's between the parkkeeper's house and the back of the new Samara Plaza. The photo of the even older police station is on the site of what's now The Library. I think the little holding cell was where they put drunks who might become a little ...er, messy, during the night!(I always think that Samara Plaza sounds like a very cheesy American soap, along the lines of Dallas et al "In this week's edition of Samara Plaza...)
