Adel Square development, Adel.

Post by Leodian »

Passing by on February 1st 2023 I noticed that work has started on what will be the Adel Square development off Tile Lane, Adel. The site is where the long disused Eastmoor Approved School was that also had an old chapel (dated 1882). An information board stated the chapel and parts of the site's buildings will be converted. There will be 72 converted and new homes and a care home. I've attached 2 photos I took on February 1st 2023 (a security fence/gate meant I could not get near enough to take better photos of the work).

The Yorkshire Evening Post today (Feb 8 2023) has a report about the development. This is a link to the online article https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/ ... ds-4016288.

This is a photo that I took on April 11 2023. It was taken putting my camera through the locked gate and better shows the still little that can be readily (i.e. legally!) seen. I don't know why I did not think to position my camera that way on February 1st. Roof tiles/slates have been removed from the building in the rear but otherwise there is no obvious change (apart from debris by the old chapel).

Hi Leodian the roof slates will have been removed because the are worth a lot of money unless they have been stolen.

Hi tilly :). Thanks for that which seems very likely.

This is a photo that I took on May 9 2023 holding my camera through the locked gate. Parts of roofs have now been removed.

I very occasionally walk by the development and there seemed to be not much change when I did pass by 3 weeks ago. Passing by on May 6 2024 a black sheet has since been put up so greatly hiding from view what is going on. It does seem rather an overkill if just to block a view! I have attached a photo that I took from Tile Lane on May 6 2024.

Hi Leodian ! Thank you once again for some interesting photos, like you I don’t see the point of a black screen on this site! Anyone who has a drone camera can easily fly it over the site to see what’s happening can’t they? So a bit pointless of them putting it in place, looking forward to more photos from you soon!

Just looking at a Google map for something elsewhere I was amused to notice that the 'Eastmoor Aprooved (sic) School, Adel, Leeds' is classed as a 'Tourist attraction'. :)
