High up on the Coronation Buildings on Vicar Lane there is a nice '1902 Coronation Buildings' feature that may not be known to some so I thought I would post these 2 photos that I took on Feb 21 2017. The first is a close-up of the feature and the second shows the buildings. The plural use is interesting (as also used in the Thornton's Buildings on The Headrow).

I wonder at what point it was decided to name it Coronation Buildings? The coronation of Edward VII was on August 9th 1902 and presumably the date was known for some time before that. Queen Victoria died in the January of 1901, but I guess there was a period of time while succession and the date of the coronation were decided.

If the building was commissioned either before the death of Victoria, or in the period when no date was know for the coronation, then it begs the possibility that it was originally going to be called something else. Maybe on the original plans it is called something else?

Maybe the plural is because the buildings were to built be occupied by different Company's on the different floors.

Now i think it is not that uncommon, New York Street has Westminster Building's where there was the "101"dance hall hall on the top floor, the Communist party Offices and the Citizens advice on the floor below and a host of other firms in and around.

When i was doing my National Service in Bristol we used to go "Bopping" to Acker Bilks Band in the Paramount Building's, a four or five floored place in the city centre. I guess that was the same, all different Firms in there.

Funnily enough when Acker hit the big time his Band was then called the Paramount's.

This is a view of the rear of the Coronation Buildings taken from Harewood Street on February 24 2017.

I was a bit surprised to see that the name Harewood Street is still used on a street sign as it is now just a pedestrianised way at the Victoria Gate centre (presumably vehicles can access it at times).
