Events in the financial markets had a profound and lasting effect on developers and developments like this, but meanwhile, the internet has revolutionised shopping. At the same time, shoppers increasingly expect convenient access and preferably free parking.

There may well be a phase II development which will see the, originally planned, disappearance of the northern "bookend" on Eastgate and expansion across Lady Lane but at present most of the land/property is presumably sitting in the developer's "landbank" courtesy of the initial compulsory purchases.

These are 3 photos that I took at the site on February 14 2017. Apart from some appearance tidying up there seems though to have been little major change since some of the earlier photos in this thread.

Nothing much in the way of any development work seems to have happened at the site for ages but I noticed on February 20 2018 that some work has recently started. This is photo that I took that day holding my camera against the outside of the security gate on Regent Street.

It's difficult to get photos of the development due to the security fencing boards at the site. These are 2 photos that I took on July 31 2018 that show some change. The first photo (taken at 12:04) makes it look like there were very dark clouds but I don't recall it being as bad as that! The second (taken at 12:09) shows there were more blue areas then!

These are a couple of photos that I took from the old New York Road on December 4 2018. The redevelopment work seems to be going on fairly slowly, though as I've mentioned before with all the security boarding around it is very hard to get good photos from street level. There is also work going on in the cleared ground between the large boarded area but it is hard to really see unless by a gate when one opens!

External work on the 'Hampton by Hilton' Hotel at the old British Gas offices site seems to have finally ended (there may be some tidying up to do). These are 2 photos that I took on December 3 2019. The first was taken from Regent Street (having to hold my camera up to a metal grid fencing!). The second was taken from the Templar Street car park looking across the Inner Ring Road and New York Road that are both out of view.

Thanks for that Tilly :).

There's still a lot of space at the site so I wonder if something else will be built in due course.
