No mate.. I stumbled upon it myself... It's not easy to spot.. I think the fence stopping you going down there was the only reason i went down myself. I don't like people saying you can't go in there. I want to know why

Now I'M OUT OF WORK (shouting it, in case someone has a job for me ) I have a bit more time to go buggering about in the muck. I was going to go upstream, under the iron bridge yesterday, but it was well fenced off,and I didn't have a lot of time. Looking at it though, it wasn't fenced that well and it doesn't look too difficult to get past it.Next nice'ish day, I may have to pay a visit..

However, I walked over the old iron bridge yesterday (the one that goes to the health & fitness centre) to see if those tree carvings actually existed. The ones in another thread. Could find nowt. However, I did spot many many remnants of the old power station down there. Concrete run off's, old brickworks etc, but NO carved trees.I didn't go upstream of the river as it was a tad difficult and I was pushed for time, but I bet if you do, it may uncover some interesting sights from the old bunker systems, MAYBE!!! Would be a better perspective than the road, I would imagine anyway?? I took a couple of pics.of power station relics a few weeks ago.The first is the concrete run-off you refer to.

Another picture of a square concrete post which appears to be part of a water-intake system.

I was looking at my recently delivered cd of the 1890 Leeds map, but it stops quite a ways short of certain areas, for instance the corporation cemetry opposite Jimmys is only half on and it doesn't go any further out of Leeds than that. Its been interesting comparing the map to images on Leodis, and how little change there was right up until 1960's. I started looking at pictures around the Compton area, and came up with this.http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... Y=FULLThat area is clear now, the small school and playground is well gone, and the Compton arms is history. It does mean that there might be a chance to have a poke around the area and see if there is any access to the air raid shelter, this is probably the best time to look around for maybe 30 years with the site being so open.It came as a real surprise to me to see how little the Nippet area had changed from 1890 through to 1960, and then it all got flattened.
