When searching through Leodis for something else I came across an undated photo of the Domestic Mission Chapel (also known as the Old Baptist Chapel) on Call Lane. I have been unable to find any information elsewhere so I would be grateful if anyone knows of any information or links to information about the chapel. This is a link to the Leodis photo

As Call Lane and The Calls do get mixed up I wondered if it was on the latter, but I have not found anything fitting on The Calls in some old maps. The photo shows what may be wooden railings of the type that are found by wharfs so I wonder if it was very near the River Aire, but if so then the houses (presumably also long demolished) were also very near.

The 1847 Godfrey Leeds (Headrow) map shows Call Lane Chapel in the area opposite the Corn Exchange on the triangular shaped plot now consisting of bus shelters which was once overlooked by the Guinness clock and Hayes' Oyster Bar. The face seen in the Leodis picture is presumably facing south west, with the short section of Call Lane to Kirkgate to the right.

Many thanks jim for that excellent information

.
Ah yes the Guinness Clock and Hayes Oyster Bar, both of which I recall and they have many mentions in SL threads. I've not been to it for somewhile but Hayes may still have a seafood stall in Leeds City Markets (I got a crab sandwich there a couple or so years back).

I think you might find Hayes Oyster Bar on Butchers Row now while they are doing big alterations at the bottom end of the Market .
