Bagpuss & Oldboy, I think Statues deserve a thread of their own.This is HR Marsden, on Hyde Park. Does anyone know who he was?

And a blank side which has been lost, destroyed... Does anyone know what other great virtue was represented?

He was a Lord Mayor of Leeds in the 1870s I think. Also an industrialist, possibly developing stone crushing machines, not sure.The two panels are Education and Industry so I'd take a guess at the third being Religion or Family. That missing plaque joins the list of things that LCC have "forgotten where they put them".It joins the lion off Woodhouse Moor (though bits of that might be in the parkkeepers garden) and also the Speakers' Stone.

Alderman and Mayor of Leeds 1873-76.Judging by this http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... ifier=7342 on Leodis the statue was moved from Woodhouse Lane (where the bus isiland is?) to the park
