Has anybody ever noticed a building in the trees near the Forge Locks along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It is nearly completely hidden by the trees by the railway track, but just visible from the Tow Path.

There is a small railway related building marked off on old maps. It's not titled signal box on any of them, so I guess it was just a humble platelayers hut possibly.

It's an interesting thread. I've just been looking in the excellent Old-Maps UK website and noticed that there have been at least 2 small buildings there since at least the 1892/1893 map. I wonder if what is there now are the original buildings, though I suspect that is unlikely. As they are next to the railway line I agree with Phill that they will likely be railway related.

Not sure how big a Platelayers Hut is, im imagining something the size of a small wooden shed made of Bricks. This looks to be 2 floors and made of a sandy coloured brick i tried to get closer but did not have much look. Will have to wait for the leaves to fall from the trees so i can see it better.
