I'm doing some genealogical research and have come upon an entry in a passenger manifest from April 1946 that says:"Destination c/o Mitchell Heigarth House, Thorner, Leeds"I believe this house may be associated with the Sisters of the CSJB, an Anglican Order, but I can find no mention of it in any resource on the web. I've contacted the order and asked for their help, but I thought perhaps it would be useful to post on this forum to ask if anyone remembers the house.Much appreciation from the other side of the pond for any information.--DougState of WashingtonUSA

Hello DougI have searched online maps 1890 and 1910 and have been unable to locate the house. Some guys on here have access to other maps. There may be a clue in its location. What is the connection to the house?

Hi Doug. May I ask where you got your info from as many things are transcribed incorrectly, on searching the old phone books I came across this from 1948

Below is the gist of the full entry from the passenger manifest, which I found about a year ago on ancestry.co.uk. At the time seemed one of the less interesting clues, but now its the only one I've got left. It was typewritten, and the spelling is as shown on the original. I suppose that the information could have been given verbally and taken down by a clerk, transcribed and typed so there could be spelling errors. "High Garth" could have been written down as "Heigarth" by, for example, an Indian clerk? Just guessing now.---------------- "Juliet Quadir, age 8, student, departs Bombay aboard SS Andes, Royal Mail Lines, arriving April 1946 in Southampton, accompanied by 73yo Sister of Mercy Georgina Parke. Destination address: c/o Mitchell Heigarth House, Thorner, Leeds"----------------The young Miss Juliet mentioned above is my adopted daughter's half-aunt, who was abandoned and sent back to Britian by her British mother (my daughter's grandmother) when she remarried in India and then (the story goes) Miss Juliet was subsequently returned to her grandparents in Leeds. It's the names of these grandparents, surname of Brooke, that I'm trying to find. I've been able to trace Georgina Parke to the Anglican order I mentioned, and I'm still working on finding Miss Juliet.

That telephone directory entry does seem to nail it doesn't it? Looks like young Juliet was going to stay with the family Mitchell at that address. There is a High Garth House on Main Street in Thorner, currently business premises. But it looks like it would certainly have been around at that time.
