According to the YEP they are going to knock down the "distinctive" Post Newspapers building. Are we happy, sad? I don't know really, it's been there as long as I remember.

Though I only very occasionally passed by I'll still miss the clock and temperature feature.

I suppose it was on the cards since they moved out. I'd imagine the current layout of the building doesn't lend itself to too many other uses.Another 'brutalist' building to face the wrecking ball then. That said, a cynic might wonder that it's a surprise it hasn't mysteriously caught fire yet...

Although it has been there many years, it was often voted one of the ugliest buildings in Leeds by Yorkshire Post & YEP readers. Like Leodian I will miss glancing up at the time and temperature. The worst case would be to build another pile of rubbish in its place.I believe the land it stands on was formerly known as Bean Ings as it would have been a fairly damp place leading down to the river Aire. If any future building could give a nod to the fact that it was once the site of one of the great mills of leeds, it would be fitting.

I was just thinking that the building was officially opened in 1970 by Prince Charles but I wonder what he actually thought then in view of his later remarks about 'monstrous carbuncle' buildings. I bet he will be glad to see it go, if he ever got to know of its demolition. PS. I wonder what will happen (or perhaps has already happened) to the blue post box at the building?

Having worked in what we called "the new building" from its opening, I can say it was a good deal better than the rabbit warren that was Albion Street. It wasn't a pretty building but it was light and airy. I always thought it larger than it need be and it could be a scarey place in the early hours of the morning. I worked at four places in Leeds and when this one is bulldozed it will have gone the way of the three others. I must be getting old!

They're trying to sell this as the first part of the redevelopment of the site, but with no actual plans in place to build anything else there, will it just become another derelict wasteland alongside the Inner Ring Road....?

There was talk on the news of trying to get it listed. To me it does not look anything like a building that should be classed has listed. There were far better buildings pulled down in the past in the town centre.

Make a short branch line off the route and it may make a good garage site for the trolley buses on the proposed Trolley bus scheme! Oops, I hope I've not given anyone an idea!

Fencing and barriers now in place carrying "demolition in progress" notices.
