Every day I come past the remains of what looks like a Victorian stone entranceway on Beckett Street. If you go to google maps and start streetview at the Bexley Wing it is a few clicks along to road towards town, on the left, opposite Rectory Street- I'm at work so can't do a screenshot and post to flikr as limited internets *curses*I've looked online and thought an old school was an option but that appears to have been further back up opposite St James's and is now the carpark.Does anyone know what used to stand there? Would love to see a picture of the original building!

This is on the opposite side of Beckett Street to Lincoln Green - behind the Co-operative Academy (Primrose High). In spite of its dilapidated state, it is still officially in use although it must be a Health & Safety hazard. The ground belongs to the Wade Charity which provides open spaces in heavily built up areas - and, of course, this area was once very heavily built up with back-to-backs. Because it was not part of the clearance area in the 1960's, it was not included in the compulsory purchase orders and was therefore not incorporated into the green space that surrounds it. I remember it in the 1960's, when it was still in usable condition. I have long thought that Leeds City Council should do a 'land swap' and clear the site to incorporate it into the surrounding green space - but I suppose there isn't the money for that now.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
