I was born in 1954 and just about remember Hunslet like this. It's very easy to get misty eyed nostalgia but really, when you see pictures like this , you see what a dump much of Leeds was. Of course, the photos(although being more atmospheric) being black and white doesn't help.

My kids dont believe me when I tell them we had frost on the inside of the windows when we were kids so living in some of those houses must have been terrible.

Ours was one up, one down, with a khazi at the bottom of the little garden! We still had the inside frost when we moved to the house provided by the Council. You just couldn't heat the place! Did you go to St.Silas' School by any chance?

St. Joseph's. Started 1953. Enjoyably nostalgic but couldn't go back.
