The council have declared war on "eyesore properties across the city according to this article in the YMP:http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... -1-4707107(there are a couple of errors in the article that I've mentioned on the "YEP" thread - if you'd like to comment on them could you use that thread and keep this for the eyesore properties subject please?)Half a million quid is apparently been spent on buildings which are lowering the tone of neighbourhoods across the city.While the council have already got the owners of some properties to take action (this seems to consist of either demolishing whatever stood on the site, ie the Lord Cardigan pub at Bramley, or just cleaning up the site) there are a few sites listed which I doubt they'll get away with that solution at due to their historical significance. There are also a few places on the hit-list that I'm sure the council actually own...physician heal thyself?* Stank Hall Barn, Dewsbury Road, Beeston* White Cloth Hall, Kirkgate, Leeds* Abbey Mills, Abbey Road, Kirkstall, Leeds* Stable block, Farnley Hall, Hall Lane, Farnley* Columbarium, Lawnswood Cemetery* Barn & outbuildings, Park Road Farm, Colton* Mansion Gate, Chapel Allerton* Old toilet block, Oakwood Clock, Roundhay* East Leeds Sports Centre, Neville Road* Theaker Lane Medical Centre* Chapeltown Road Old Gurdwara and Hindu temple* Cottingley Arms pubA cynic might speculate if this sudden burst of civic pride might result in a few more mysterious fires....?

Cottingley Arms? Isn't that the Sphinx as was?I'm sure that the last time I went past there on the 55 it was in the midst of demolition. Or maybe that's just what I wanted to see.

I see the biggest, and probably most shameful eyesore in the City is missing, what about the York Road library?

It's just the same as Mansion Gate (old Chapel Allerton hospital) That's just as bad, if not worse inside, they have that one listed, and it looks respectable from the outside, and is well away from public gaze.Unlike the library which is passed by thousands each day     

They missed out City House.

What about the Crown PH at the junction of Crown Point Road and Hunslet Road - the road to nowhere.And the buildings across the road from the Crown between Hunslet Road and Sheaf Street. These look as if they may be listed because they are 'fenced off' on the current Google StreetView. Or maybe that's just good old H&S.One other snippet from the current Google StreetView is that one of the pub name signs for the Crown signifies the place as the CROW HOTEL. Which ironically enough, is probably just what it is now.

YEP building, a big concrete eyesore.

How about the now empty former building of Leeds Girls High School on Headingley Lane. What a shame it has been allowed to get into this condition. From what it used to be - an absolute disgrace.

Only because the alternative was worse and it's been fought all the way.
