A contact of mine on Flickr has an interest in police telephone boxes. In recent correspondence, he mentioned that he had been looking at Leodis and the photos of City of Leeds Police phone boxes [there are quite a few pics] and that while the design of the full size boxes [think tardis] were particular to Leeds, the smaller type call posts [pictured above] were standard throughout the country with the exception – in some cases, of the relevant police force’s crest being added to the box.Would anybody know if the Leeds boxes had the force’s crest on them?

I dont know the answer to your question Liits, but does anyone know if the 'Tardis' is still there outside Wetherby nick? I always used to see it on the way to the car boot sales at the racecourse and Rufforth on a Sunday, but I've not had a car for a couple of years so its a while since I was up that way...

Are there still any police boxes in Leeds? The only one that I know about anywhere else is on the harbour top in Scarborough.

We visited Edinburgh last September, and they seem to have kept a number of police boxes, all locked up and obviously disused for many years.

Perhaps our ex force members can help here? One of 'em once told me that back in 50's/60's there was a place (not a station) just off Shaw Lane for police.Anyone?

There used to be one of a different variety - it was built into the curved wall on the corner of Belle Vue Road and Woodsley Road.I think the replacement stones can still be seen.

Here's a pic of both types of call point and both types were used in Leeds.

[quotenick="liits"] BLAKEY wrote: There used to be one of a different variety - it was built into the curved wall on the corner of Belle Vue Road and Woodsley Road./quote] That's an interesting picture indeed liits - I'm afraid I misled you slightly though - the one in Belle Vue Road was actaully a full size Police box rather than a call point, same topic though.
