I was walking in East Ardsley when i spotted a the stone sign across what had been a shop front at one time. Its a house now but it reads, Morley Industrial Cooperative society. The sign must have been originally made by a stone mason as its made of Yorks Stone, i think? I have a picture but its too large to upload

and another ...Lower Wortley Industrial Cooperative SocietyI believe they had 2 stores - one below and one on Oldfield LaneNot sure how independent these were and if they all belonged to the "Leeds Industrial Cooperative society"http://www.yorkshiredailyphoto.com/2011 ... mlOldfield Lanehttp://g.co/maps/8ms5bMore infohttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeds_Co-operative_SocietyInteresting the sign on the Hydepark store is the same - I'm sure I read somewhere that the Wortley stores were separate at one one time. ......http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... Originally 'The Wortley Cloth Manufacturing and Provision Society'.

The store on Lower Wortley Road is quite an impressive building. Another Leeds Industrial Cooperative Society shop was on Otley Road in Headingley:http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... AY=FULLThe building is now occupied by Oxfam but the (very worn) foundation stone mentions its former use.http://snipurl.com/22lgeeaI remember the Co-op grocery store on Albion Street in the 1960s (where BHS is now) - our divi number was 183646!
