SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

Hi there i used to go visit my nan on the longroyd estate regularly (which incidently im curious if there a contender for some of the oldest houses as there all blind backs) and i used to pass over this bump in the grass and was wondering if it was an old air raid shelter covered over. Can anyone confirm/dismiss my suspicion ? thanks

My grandad was born in 1902 or thereabouts and he bought one of the houses in Longroyd View from new so I would imagine that would be early 30's. I have the estate agents flyer about them somewhere around.

I don't recall them being different styles but it is many years since I've been there. I do recall going to the kid's playground on Hunslet Moor and going down the slide on my front. I shot off the end and did a belly flop onto the ground. I didn't get much sympathy from my father, I think he thought it was amusing!

After recent digging i have 'heard' that the banking (very steep hill) that seperates hunslet moor from the motorway contains old war bunkers. can anyone confirm?http://goo.gl/maps/04EsFthe bank actually travells a lot further along but it would be intresting if anyone could locate an entrance

Moor Road continued on along the flat until the motorway was built. You can see the bank is only an embankment to carry the motorway slip road herehttp://goo.gl/maps/ujMY3Moor Road today comes to an abrupt stop where the motorway bisects it. Yeah should of thought of that really but i did always wonder where moor rd ended up its obv cut off by looking at it. And theres a but ....... my grandad is adamant theres bunkers on there hes tried explaining the location but iv prob got my wires crossed.He used to live on dews rd and attended hunslet hall rd school as a kid so its believeable that they are there somewhereIll ask him again for exact location.
