I was stopping at the Novotel in Leeds on saturday night. leaving on Sunday I happened to take a close look at the small building attached to the back of the old Wellesley Hotel. It has a rather grand blocked arch and a locked green door with a sign saying "Wellesley Hotel No 1".it also appears to be 2 storeys as there is a window above the green grill.it looks like a power generator of some kind, however the building looks to have been used for something else. Now, I am aware that there used to be a holy well somewhere in this vicinity called "The Eyebright Well" and this looks suspiciously like it could be the former wellhouse.Anyone know more about it?I didn't have a camera with me so couldn't take a picture

IiRC it's a substation, I took a pic of the sign intended for the sigs of leodis thread. Originally related to the first power station and the blue vents around the corner.

Cardi beat me there! Yes, associated with the first power station on whitehall Road (and still in use for current day distribution),. much featured in both Station and various tunnel threads on here Steve. As Cardie states it is thought it is connected to the ducts running up to Falk House and beyond, the two squat blue columns remaining having provided ventilation to these. (they are grade II listed btw).

Of course. Sorry. Also, tangent ------> with yr bus knowledge, as an early 1960's kid on open backed Leeds double deckers, I was always intrigued by that odd rounded metal thing where floor met front lower deck wall (middle behind driver). What was it?
