Hi Guys,I went up to Parlington today, we went up to see the Arch, on our way back we noticed a rather run down circular building (links below). I've been on the Parlington website and I can't seem to find anything about what it is. Anyone know anything about what it could have been?http://www.flickr.com/photos/ninanoonan ... eam/Cheers

Hi Nina.I've never seen it before, It looks most intriguing. I don't know what it is, but I know a man who will. I'll give Brian a shout who lives in Parlington itself. He knows everything worth knowing about Parlington estate.Check out his website here, you might find your mystery structure herehttp://www.parlington.co.uk/

Phil sent me an email about your query and I have some information for you. (I probably need to set the so called Deer Shelter in its own section)... more work to do!Some pictures of the structure are here: http://www.parlington.co.uk/photos.lass ... =photo5And here:http://www.parlington.co.uk/structures.lasso?process=3(Lower down the page, below the Triumphal Arch references), titled:A Connection from Gascoigne to the Prince Regent, via Lindley?Hope this is helpful?A matter of some interest I did the QuickTime VR of the inside of the structure only a few weeks before one of the walls collapsed. So it is a great historical record!CheersBrian

That is brilliant! Thanks to both you and Brian! It's really nice to stumble upon a bit of history that so many people never knew was there

The structure looks like it could be built from Caen stone, going by the extreme weathering. The original navvies monument in Otley was made from this soft limestone, and had to be re-built using something more resilient.
