Looks like tehy are trying to attract the Hen/Stag party crowd that descends on Leeds on Fridays. The nearest large "budget hotels" are some way from the station,so i can see where they may get some business, but it will be at the expense of the other ones.As for the office space, well Whitehall No1 still stands vacabt on Whitehall Road, that tells a story.

Chris, I asked this before and was surprised to find upon investigating that, supply often exseeds demand in Leeds. Difficult to believe and understand but if the trade is there to make it pay...

To be fair, Leeds needs as much extra hotel space as it can get be it budget, chain or boutique.A while back I had to book a hotel at short notice - nothing fancy, owt with a double bed and en suite facilities would be fine. The nearest "budget" hotel was a choice of the Travelodge at Woolley Edge Services or in Halifax. After over an hour of searching virtually every Leeds hotel in the phone book (up to and including the likes of the Hilton and the Malmaison) I managed to get a twin room at the Merrion Hotel which was their last available room.I was told the same story everywhere, "Leeds is always full in midweek" and whilst checking in at the Merrion other people were being turned away - goodness knows where they ended up.However, evry time a new hotel is planned, the head of the Leeds Guild of Hoteliers (or whatever they are called) tells the YEP that trade will be decimated and there is already too much oversupply - I wonder why they might say that?
