SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

Whilst browsing on Leodis, I came across a picture of Asket hall, on Asket Hill, I've lived around that area all my life, and have never seen it, so I presumed it had been knocked down. Then I started wondering where its location was. There was a previous thread on this forum, which got a bit off topic and a clear answer was never given, so I'd like to ask, where was the site of Asket Hall? I know of the bridge that goes nowhere over the stream, mentioned in the previous thread, so could you point me in the right direction from there?

Leodis tells you the Hall and Stables are demolished but in fact the stables are still there.From easterly road pass north lane and turn left up Asket Hill and the stables are on your left tastefully restored into residential with some new housing on the site of the hall.Now nip back to north lane and go up there turning right after north way and you will see asket hall lodge. The driveway started there and then through to the bridge going nowhere and up to the Hall.Stand on the lodge side and look at the site if the hall/stables and contrast that now returned to nature vision with the picture of the terraced gardens of the Hall on Leodis.magnificent contrast.

Brilliant, thank you! I used to go to school at the recently demolished Braim Wood, across the road from the hill, so I used to pass the bridge and the site of the house loads of time, to cut through to easterly road.

Some great posts there.Also there's stuff on Wyke Beck which you should know well. It's been researched by others that it is possible the becks course where it runs straight south of Asket Hill was engineered for a tudor corn mill. You can see walling and an old weir in the beck.We may have lived on a council estate and gone to state schools but twas a bit of grand history below our feet - why not have a days walk round!
