I had similar thoughts stevie.I found more on Leodis. 1977-1989 Yorkshire Crown, 1989-???? the observatoryhttp://www.leodis.net/searchResults.aspx?LOCID ... Presumably 77 is when it ceased to be a Midland bank (no sign of a griffin) but was it built as a bank?

I remember going to a seedy goth night club a few times in the basement In the late 80's.I think the entrance was round the side. If you look in the top picture, I think it might have been the black door near the lamp post or further down out of the frame.I was rather drunk at the time.

I think it was called "Twilight square" And wasn't open for long, at least using that name.
