Came across a packet with a Tip Top label on it today. They had a shop on Headingley Arndale Centre, I rembember them as an early pound shop. ANyone else remember? Also I noted that Headingley Wilkinsons still has the original Hillards red on the stair handrails.

I think there used to be a Tip Top on Kirkgate where Superdrug is now. I might be wrong but I thought it was similar to Superdrug.

I'm going to be mostly useless if anyone asks me for recollections of Leeds as I can't even recall Tip Top shops! With apologies for going a bit off thread but I do recall there used to be a Grandways on New York Road that I think may have been one of the earliest low prices supermarket type stores. It was demolished for the construction of the Inner Ring Road. If I recall correctly (and that may be in doubt!) during the road construction at or near where Grandways was a large underground chamber was found that may have been a forgotten air raid shelter. If I'm right I wonder if it is still there or filled in?

Leodis has pictures of a 'subway/culvert' under construction which we.ve mentioned but I don't think we ever exactly placed - maybe this is part of it? Fine Fare Crossgates was the first Leeds supermarket, also ...somewhere....in another thread
