SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

Turner - Leeds 1816 (any one know where in Leeds)Just visited the Leeds Art gallery and was dissapointed to see so few paintings of Leeds. Is there any reference that lists the paintings/drawings of Leeds.I believe Turner did 150! alone - here's a one from 1816(Beeston Hill - see below)        

Turner - Kirkstall Lock 1824 - Leeds Bradford RoadIt's interesting that he used "Artistic Licence" here to take off some of the "turrets" on the bridge - if you look at his sketches in the excellent book "Turner and Leeds" the turrets are included - you can see one on the right - I always wondered what they were for! What I don't understand is that there are reportedly several Turner paintings in store at the National Gallery.Is it really beyond the wit of Leeds Art Gallery checking if there are any of the Leeds ones and getting them in on loan?This is my favourite Leeds related one - Hannibal crossing Otley Chevin

Would be nice to have a "Leeds room" in the art gallery - the same way the museum has a Leeds room    

As no-one has yet come up with an ID for the picture at the top of the thread, how about a bit of wild conjecture? The smoke appears to be blowing from left to right, the prevailing wind in Leeds blows from the West. The picture seems to be from a higher area looking to a lower one - so, South Leeds, looking North West, perhaps. How about from Woodhouse Hill/present day Belle Isle Road kind of area?( waits to be shot down in flames, but if it gets people thinking, what the hey! )
