Located on the on the OS 1854 map of Wortley where the swings are in the present Wortley Recreation ground was a feature called Scott's Bush. Was this an ancient tree I wonder and who was Scott?http://www.british-history.ac.uk/mapshe ... =394&y=220

Seems it was a small wooded area and the name is derived from a Scotsman who hanged himself in the woods - the Leeds Mercury Newspaper from Jan 23 1880 "The Proposed Recreation Ground at Wortley"
