Bit of a coincidence, but on Friday we arrived at work, end of lenton drive, next to old scrap yard spur, to find a large trolley with a couple of hundred pins for holding the plates to the sleeper there in. Thinking they might be from the railway we contacted middleton railway who came and looked at them. They decided they were not there's but decide to take them anyway. So we loaded half into a 4x4 and off they went. Imagine our surprise when they came back to find the rest gone, trolley and all and to cap it all two of our drain grates were missing. The cheek of some people is unbelievable.

On page 7 of today's YEP it reports that metal thieves have struck again at the Middleton Railway. They have caused damage that could cost up to £7,000 to put right, The YEP states the thieves "have stolen 23 iron couplings which link locomotives to their heritage wagons at some point last week".

Aye,it's a disgrace. Some people have no respect for 'owt. They'd probably sell their own mothers given half a chance.Surely these would be easy items to spot at any scrapyard ???????s

They want to chop their bloody hands off!!I can't abide these thieves who target heritage, preserved buildings and preservation societies! I once saw some rogues thieving slates off the little gate house near Roundhay school on Thorn Lane, they just looked like two roofers with a van stripping the slates to replace them, The place has stood with half the tiles missing for nearly 2 years now. I'd have reported them there and then if I'd have known they were on the rob.

In the 60s we lived in a house just off Town Street in Middleton. I believe that the slope at the bottom of our garden, which in those days was a footpath, was originally part of the Middleton Railway. Is it referred to in earlier posts? I believe our house might have been the pit managers house.
