SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

It is only recently, after I looked more closely at City House that i realised it now appears to be completely vacant. does anyone know if there is a future mapped out for this building or if its days are done ?Would imagine, given its location, it would be a very interesting and difficult demolition job

The last i heard was that it was to be reclad and developed into a hotel.That was pre crunch though.I believe it has been gutted but ive seen no evidenvce of any sort of activity on sight for a good long while.

In a similar vein,whats happening to the BRSA club onNew station st above the former pfm 4,not been that wayfor a bit but looked like contracters were using it formessing facilities.

I've heard that the company that own / run / manage City House has gone into receivership, putting all plans on hold.I don't know that as a fact, but it would explain the lack of activity.As for the reclad, the Polytechnic (now Leeds Met) reclad their 60's style buildings not that long ago and they look a whole lot better, so it can be achieved fairly easily I would imagine.City House sits above a gateway into the city, so the sooners it's sorted out the better.

Not as recent as you might think. Definitely 10 plus years ago now, only one of the 4 tower blocks and from memory it took the best part of a year. Two of the peripheral (non tower)buildings have since been demolished and the other 3 towers were scheduled to be demolished pre credit crunch. The low level student union building was also reclad I think as part of the 2000 project to construct the leslie Silver building which houses the Library r

My Dad worked in the Aire Street Railway offices in the 1940s/50s until retiring and used to take me in as a little kid many a time so that I could ride in the beautiful green "marble" lined Waygood Otis lifts - they were "state of the art" in those days.I suppose its all altered in there long ago ??
