I remember there used to be phone boxes made of concrete, and the door window frames were red. They had a sort of pinnacle on top. Or have I just confused them will the Hull boxes?

http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... SPLAY=FULL I remember now. There used to be one like that outside the Fountain Inn in Morley when I was a kid. In those far off days most people didn't have phones so it used to get fairly busy. Morley got STD in 1963 so in the days I'm talking about you had to insert 4 1d. peices, lift the receiver, ask for your number and when they replied press button "A" to speak, if you didn't get through you pressed button "B" to get your 4d. back.

Hull phone boxes were actually 'cream' rather than 'white' to be pedantic.

did you know that area codes were originally borne out of the first 2 letters of the "director exchange" that covered the area.Leeds was 532 because Leadbury was 531Bradford was 274 because Barnstaple, Bristol and Brighton were all more important exchanges.Hull was 482, but there was no 481Take a look at your mobile keypad and see. The only difference is that UK phones didn't have O on the 6 key as the GPO thought it might confuse people when they were dialling a zero!!!
