Does anyone know what 10 Water Lane was? It intrigues me every time I walk past as to what distant life it played. Apart from the doorway very little exists, although the part of the corner wall is quite substantial. Its next to the Asda car park.

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

Well i photographed the very same thing the other day.It did get me wondering that Water lane from Holbeck must have extended to the East side of Victoria bridge in days of old.Can anyone remember this old road layout before the Asda H.Q?

I used to hang out around there gazing at the Gov. Surplus radio shops on my way home from Central High School Ca. 1963, but Water Lane is still there on Google maps.It did go through to Neville Street and apparently at some time had gone right across it, as did "Front Row" IIAC, but wasn't very exciting. Just a couple of hundred yards of abandoned derelict buildings, or so it seemed to me as a schoolkid, I seem to recall businesses selling second hand tyres. It terminated then as it does now where Meadow Lane turns into Bridge End at a little Cul de Sac with 2 or 3 parking spaces (then parking meters), and a dirty book shop.Erm ... so I've heard !

Number 10 Water lane isn't on the Holbeck side of that map, It's just behind the Red Lion pub on Meadow lane, this is what i say, it must have run past Victoria bridge along the other side of the river to Swinegate in days of old?

The junction of water lane with the eastern side of Victoria Road/Neville Street is shown in a Leodis image recently posted on the Lost Pubs thread (bottom of page 71) trying to locate the Clarendon. I did pode the question on there where Victoria Road becomes Neville Street although I had forgotten at the time it is Victoria Bridge suggesting that the Bridge is still Victoria Road approaching town.

I've marked out in red on a Google arial image the missing section of Water lane where the new Asda headquarters now stands. You can see that image herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/400457 ... edsPerhaps Brandy or Chameleon can post it on S.L for me
