When I was a kid in the 60's a school chum of mine used to live in a church somewhere near or on Carr Crofts - his parents were live-in caretakers and they had a small house at the back of the churchI'm almost certain it was on the left side of Carr Crofts as you go down towards Armley Town St, between the railway bridge and Modder Avenue - an old red brick church - we once messed around in the church while it was empty - very spooky.... Looking on Multimap & Google Earth it doesn't look as though there has ever been a church thereAm I dreaming?

Can't remember a church in that area and I was around from about late 60's onwards.    

Not the church that you mean, but there was a little chapel further on the left going down towards Town Street - it became Carr Crofts Cinema almost a century ago, and is still in use for warehousing or similar.

Two years on and bringing this old thread back to life.... :-)I have been able to answer my own question - there was indeed a church in the spot I described in my OP - I have acquired a 1908 edition map of Armley and Wortley and right where I thought was a church there is marked a Baptist Chapel, directly opposite Cedar Mount, two streets down from the railway bridge...So I wasn't imagining things after all.... :0)

The chapel is still marked on a Geographia Leeds street plan which I have - it is not dated but is priced at 5/-d and therefore printed prior to Decimal Day in February 1971, but I would say "only just" because it is a modern booklet and so I imagine the demolition was probably about that time.
