http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 87.jpThere are big ongoing plans afoot for the Leeds Uni campus - this might be a final chance to record how things stand now, before they're changed for ever.On a related note, the YEP also carry a story about how demolition work is starting on the former Leeds Met 'tower block' on the site of the new arena. I'm not sure exactly which building they mean, but when it's gone, it's gone!

Its the Brunswick building theyre clearing for the arena.no great loss.Im a little concerned, now that Trinity has been mothballed following Eastgate quarter and lumiere etc etc that the arena may well get put on hold.

I don't think the overall look of the campus will change very much, although it will be a bit more built-up as some green space and car parks are being used for new build. Apart from Charles Morris Hall, none of the current buildings will be demolished and so many of them are listed buildings that any modernisation of these will maintain the current outward appearance. It's good to see that a new landscaped square is being created (although it's not in the centre of the campus as the article stated), but car-owners will be less chuffed, as it's being built on one of the car parks!

There will be plenty of room adjacent to the campus for a replacement car park soon. Leeds Carnegie University (subject to Privy Council approval the new name for Leeds Met) have already demolished A Block Portland Way/Calverley Street. F Block and H Block the two square blocks adjacent to the inner ring road on Calverley Street and Woodhouse Lane are likely to be demolished this year and D block the less attractive of the two central blocks is unlikely to see the end of 2010. Development of the A block site is on hold and I suspect the same will happen to the sites of these 3 buildings unless a construction recovery happens soon.

It looks like the new development of Charles Morris Hall is going to be huge; I think that'll probably have quite an impact on the campus, given that it's situated next to the new Earth & Environment building. Managed to get inside the larger house of Charles Morris (Mary Ogilvie) the other day and took some good photos; looks like it's scheduled for demolition within the next few days so I'm a bit wary of going back...
