The former Assembly Rooms Cinema, ultimately the Plaza, which has been closed many years has now been fully restored as one of the final steps in the refurbishment of the Grand Theatre complex. It is now to be the headquarters of English National Opera North and in future performances will be given there. It has been fully and painstakingly restored to its original glory when it was built in the nineteenth century - all the original architecture and beautiful plasterwork has been rescued, and it is said by those who know that the acoustics are magnificent. The interior appeared on the TV News and is a real treat to behold.
