Does anybody else recall visiting a 2nd hand bookshop that I think used to be situated in the small square next to what was the Cobourg pub and opposite the back/side of the merrion Centre?I vaguely recall going into a place there back around 1979 ish but am trying to remember the name and location.I only just realised that it must have been around there somewhere.

Don't remember any of the shops/offices Steve, but that is Queen's Square if that "half helps."

Ooooh yes - do you mean a large multi-storey second hand book shop, corner of Queen's Square and Woodhouse Lane ?? - if so then it was the famous Archie Miles bookshop - although I would have thought that it was demolished way before 1979 ??

It was called Miles' and was originally a double fronted shop on the left-hand side of Great George Street as one approached Cookridge Street.I can't remember when it moved or finally closed.

I didn't know that particular shop had ever been Miles ?? - it was certainly a branch of Austick's at the end of its existence in the mid 1990sThe enormous Archie Miles shop at the corner of Woodhouse Lane and Queen's Square had very faded reddish woodwork and was very shabby in a mysterious and fascinating way, and I believe that the name "Archie Miles" was painted in white on the roof tiles or somewhere equally prominent. I may have a transport related picture somewhere showing it, and will have a look when I have a minute.
