SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

Hello all, this is my first post on this forum I apologise for it being a question I’m not sure if this is the done thing or not.I am in desperate search of a viewing point in Leeds where I can achieve an uninterrupted view if the magnificent Leeds Skyline which is in my opinion is one of the most breathtaking sites you will ever see.Granted I am totally against the phasing out of traditional old fashioned buildings leeds has become famous for in favour of modern characterless contempary architecture but I still feel the site of cutting edge buildings like Bridgewater Place and city Island standing alongside Leeds Uni, the Town hall and Leeds Market is a site to behold.The best view I’ve found so far is from the Beeston clinic. I managed to get this picture by standing on the wall. If anyone has other suggestions id love to hear them. EDITAfter numerous atempts to resize my photo so that the forum will accept it I've had to leave it out. If anybody wants to see it Il gladly e-mail it!

You get a good view of the Leeds skyline from Troy Road in Morley. I should know!

And from the roof of Marlborough Towers, if the caretaker will let you up there.

You can get a fantastic view from Rothwell. Go along Haigh Road from the whales jaw bones - about 100 yards. there are a number of short street leading off the north side of Haigh road. go to the end of one of these(Haigh Gardens or Mill pit Lane are particularly good) and you'll get a fantastic view with virtually all of Leeds spread out before you.

You can see the University and some others, but I'm fairly sure you won't get the full city centre skyline from there, but Ramshead Drive (between Ramshead Approach and Ramshead View) in Seacroft must have probably the finest panaoramic view in the whole of Leeds.I drive along there a few times a week and never fail to be impressed with the view. I really must take the camera one of these days.

Try Garforth Cliff too, coming into Leeds from the A1, just past the Garden Centre.

There's a great view of the centre from Cabbage Hill in Armley/Wortley, one of the highest points in Leeds. Best access to this is from the end of Barras Street, which is off Upper Wortley Road near Whingate Junction. The footpath to the hill runs from the end of this road, up a steep bank at the end. It's a great place to watch the sun go down.I imagine the top of the Cookridge communications tower would afford a fairly decent view too, but not sure it would be easy to get permission.

Another good view from Morley area is as you head down Gelderd Road from Branch end. Alternatively from Thornbury barracks towards Calverley look left you've got Leeds and right towards Bradford and Shipley, then of course in front there's often the sight of a plane dropping behind the hill or appearing from behind it. There's some interesting views around sunset.

There's some interesting views around sunset. I think you've got your rights and lefts mixed up, Spongebob, unless they've moved Calverley! I'm assuming you mean the view from Woodhall Hills Golf Club, or thereabouts?You get a pretty good view of Leeds from one of those planes you mention, but that's cheating!
