The last time I was in Leeds, jan 07, the builders were in the process of doing up the new museum in The Civic Theatre. Is it finished yet? If not, does anyone know when it will be finished.Ta!

I'm far more familar with the place as a theatre, complete with all the nooks and crannies most people never saw, not to mention some of the antiquities of stage gear which gave it such character; speaking of characters, everyone associated with the theatre from days past will remember Fred, the resident stage manager for many years and his incredible sets and clothes. It will be strange and so very different to see it all without the proscenium arch - at least its new purpose is a worthy one.

Has anyone been to the museum yet? I went last night on my way home from work for half an hour and it was great. They have really done the auditorum well, sympathetically keeping it in style with how it used to be. There are loads more exhibits about Leeds and they still have the Tasmanian Wolf, Tiger and the Mummy there too. WELL worth a visit. Great for kids too from what I asw, there are loads of interactive things for them to do.

Would love to have gone first off but looking at the number of people with the same idea, we decided to wait a while to enjoy it when a little quieter. A particular interest will be finding a small display relating to one of my ancestors which I understand has been created

Well in my capacity as West yorkshire representative of the centre For fortean zoology, I can tell you what the 2Leeds Tiger" is.It is a Thylacine otherwise known as a Tasmanian Tiger. They were not actually tigers but rather marsupials. The last Thylacine died in a zoo in 1933 according to history, however although extinct on Tasmania , there have been a constant stream of reports and sightings from Australia which lead cryptozoologists to believe that they also exisited on the mainline and are still in existence. The Thylacine is thought to be one of the most likely animals to be found not to be extinct as thought.I believe Leeds museum also had a skeleton of one as well as the stuffed exhibit.

It was given in 1860 odd for some reason. Cant remember why though as presumably if it became extinct in the 1930's it would have been OK 70 years earlier. I thought the Leeds tiger was the actual Tiger that is there, and the other was known as a Tasmanian Wolf (although it does have a striped back like a tiger)
