There is a large stately house at the entrance to the estate. It is currently disused. There is a sign on the Gatehouse that says it was an Artificial Limb Centre. I know part of the building was used as this upto the mid seventies. Can anyone tell me anything about its early history or anything else about what the building was used for, or its original history as a house

I have done some further research the building in question is Chapel Allerton Hospital. This was originally built as Gledhow Grove in the 1830's and was designed by the architect John Clark. In 1926 it opened as a hospital specialising in the fitting of appliances and false limbs to war veterans. It had 5 wards. It was a Ministry of Pensions Hospital and area Hospital. Can anyone tell me anymore about John Clark, the original house or any experiences of what life was like in the hospital

John Hives the owner of a flax mill called Bank Mills on East Street / Cavalier Hill Leeds engaged John Clark the Leeds architect to design and draw up the plans for the new masion Gledhow Grove 1831/32, John Clark also was the designer of Bank Mills in 1824. Thomas Willington George, alderman of Leeds was the owner of Gledhow Grove from 1844 to 1890. The Hon.
