an "old" police station, middletons little nick, built in 1956, attatched to the side of the libary and closed when i was little (if anyone has the exact date of its closing id appreciate it) it was a little place, never saw the inside myself but apparently it was like a broom closet, the local bobby (back when we had local bobbys walking the street )was based there if i remember right, there was one tiny cell and room for three police and it even had the little blue latern hanging over the entrance although i cant spot that on the photos of it on leodis so i might be remembering that wrong, in the photo its brand new, but when i was a kid there were lots of trees and bushes around it making it look very idealic, especially with the blue latern, loooking especially nice at night, they demolished the little station after it lay empty for a while, leaving the libary to stand by itself, does anyone have any info on where miggy nick, if there was one, before this station was built in 1956 was located

reviving this fascinating thread.i have a copy on CD-rom of the Kirkstall Police station Occurence book available from Leeds Indexers and fascinating.on googling to see if any others are available,i found out that West Yorkshire archives hold various ones including Beeston from 1890.Anyone ever looked at the beeston one?The archives hold a lot from the second world war but these may not be accessible because of the 100 year rule on access to records.
Steve JonesI don't know everything, I just like to give that impression!

Your Google view is pointing to what was Charles Thackray (and previously the old Medical School) before the Magistrate's Court was built.I used to go and feed the police horses with apples on my way to school (St Anne's)!

I imagine it would have been the stable block within the grounds (now the cafe). Edit: no, I stand corrected, as the stable block was already a cafe by 1972, when the police horses transferred there! I'll see if I can find out any more (perhaps they were stabled at the farm).
