It is not behind the wooden board on the corner, I know I have looked behind it and its just blank. Look at the photo from the 1930s of the chap cementing it into the new (as was then) bus station. The brick type matches exactly that position which is not seen anywhere else on the siteIt is impossible that the photo is printed the wrong way otherwise the words would be in mirror image.Short of ripping the existing facade away I don't know how else to prove this to you all! It was definitely there somewhere LS1 pretty well-weahered sandstone as I recall but readable. Looks like a late night jemmie attack after all, maybe on Feb 22nd

Somewhere I have a picture of the North Bar stone, trolling through my books to no avail as yet (amazing how rare it is to find an index in many local history books!), but I have found another reference to it:'The North Bar is built into shop-front brickwork on the east side of Vicar lane just north of the Lady Lane junction, but in 1993 was covered by the green-painted woodwork of a new amusement arcade. The 'Memory Lane' photo on page 13 of the YEP today (Nov 2 2013) is the photo showing the old North Bar Stone being repositioned that is in Jogon's post on page 3 23-Jan-2013 08:32:26. The caption to the photo in the YEP is:-"LEEDS, DATE unknown. Vicar Lane and Market. Cementing into position, in the wall of a new building in Vicar Lane. The old bar stone which was taken from the former building on the site - once the Leeds workhouse, when it was demolished".

In a report on page 17 of the Yorkshire Evening Post today (Feb 26 2014) it states of the Victoria Gate development that pre-applications have been made for proposals to demolish "several key buildings, including the old Vicar Lane bus station and the Lyons Works clothing factory, which was built in 1914".As the North Bar stone may still be there (but hidden) at the Vicar lane bus station I hope that it is removed before demolition starts. I have a worry that it will get forgotten about and that in due course it will be too late. We may need to keep our SL eyes on the area whenever work starts.
