It seems to be the Lodge to "South Field" a big old house and is traceable at least back to the 1850's.Unusual!!

I took advantage of this glorious weather we've been having and snapped a few more gatehouses this morning. They are mostly around Oakwood and Roundhay can be seen herehttp://tinyurl.com/5rw4rqe

Two interesting lodges that haven't been mentioned on here before are the Woodbourne lodges built on the Nicholson estate overlooking the upper lake. Their were originally 3 lodges, or coach houses, I'm not sure if the third still survives, but two of them are visible, one on Wetherby Road, and the other Park Avenue.Woodbourne seems to be another grand old house lost like Asket Hill. It appears new housing and Park Edge Close has been built on the spot where it once stood. The photos, more info and aerial imagery can be seen herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/620012 ... hotostream]I've marked the two visible lodges on the map, I'm thinking the third is halfway up the carriage drive (which seems to be in the grounds of the White House pub these days) It would be good to find out a little bit about this lost mansion house of Leeds if possible.

I see on the map Phill that there is a 'Lav' and a 'Urinal' fairly close to each other near the lodge in the bottom right. I wonder if the 'Lav' was for use by ladies?

Hiya, this is my first post, I've been lurking here for a while as I am fairly new to the Leeds area and interested to find out about the history around me!Anyway, would this be classed as a gate house? It is on the junction of Back Lane and Tong Road between New Farnley and...I guess Old Farnley - I wondered if this would be for Farnley Hall?http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=LS12+5H ... 2,135,,0,0

Welcome to Secret Leeds That's a fine little gatehouse (or it looks to be one-will have to check the old map to see)It's similar to one on Oakwood Lane I photographed today, and there did use to be two toll houses on Redcote Lane that looked similar. I'll try find the photos on Leodis and post them here later. It's a shame their gone, they looked fine little buildings too!

Two doors down from where Station Parade meets Kirkstall Lane, this is actually 2 houses.http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=leeds&l ... ,1.3&z=20I think these are Railwaymens retirement cottages, built by the the North Eastern Railway. there are several along that stretch of various ages.

Those have a plaque with some info about them being almshouse or something, have a photo some where, as part of some benefactor. The NER cottages are further up on the other side of Station Parade. the Godfrey Map labels that plot as Railway cottages though at the time of the map there aren't any (IIRC)!
