Hi, if I remember correctly The Builder's Arms was actually The Shepherd in Richmond Hill next door a cinema (which eventually became a bingo hall and is now a fish and chip shop!!) had my first pint in the shepherd,i know it well, but it's not the shepherd.it's probably somewhere that has flats built on it now. Amazing my first pint was there too - when I worked next door at the bingp hall. 16p a pint for some Bass keg muck but it tasted like nectar to me at 15 year old!!

I've been on a bit of a fact finding mission over the last couple of days to get some copies of the three series of Queenies Castle, and guess what... they still all exist all 18 episodes. If you look on a website www.itnsource.co.uk you can order excerpts from them all. I also called ITV who put me on to the BFI who looked it up on their computers and told me, yes they have all the eposides, and that I would need to come to london and view them, but there was little chance I could get copies. Now I wanted to lay down the gauntlet to see if anyone knows how we can get these either released or pay a few quid to get some copies for people that want them on here. The BFI said that ITV will have to OK them to be copied, but I dont even know if copywright still exists on these as they are 30 odd yearts old. Seen the one on Youtube, and I'm getting sick of watching the same on over and over again (although it is good).

Since somebody considered it financially viable to release a boxed set of "Oh Dr Beeching!" you'd imagine there is enough interest in QC to warrant a DVD release? On a related note there are two photographs of Quarry Hill flats in the current "No Such Thing As Society" exhibition at Leeds Art Gallery - one is of the demolition of what I presume is Oastler House, nice shot of workmen gathered under the archway and you can see wallpaper etc in the shell of flats behind them. Also another one of QH in the snow.It runs til the 31st Aug and there's some interesting stuff in there.

I know pretty much where the tapes will be as I used to work in the same building as the Granada/LWT tape store in London. Yorkshire's tape library was moved down there when Granada bought the company. The problem will be with rights and repeat fees and the difficulty in tracking down the cast or their estates. Technically everything should be there as it will have been digitised for Granada Plus which makes me surprised that it hasn't popped up on ITV2 or 3. ITV have a variable attitude to DVDs, but would possibly release it if there was sufficient demand - I bought Brass on DVD a few years ago, but it appeared that the entire run had been bought up by Fopp, and with ITV's finances not being in the best of states they might be a bit shy of releasing anything new at the moment. Then again if it's held by the BFI they can also release DVDs but it will all come back to clearance.

My uncle used to work for YTV and told me the same sort of thing. Are you saying then that if enough people write in they would release them? What sort of numbers are we looking at (ideas hatching here). Also simong, how do you reakon that the episode that is on Youtube managed to get there? Seems strange there is really hardly any reference to it on the internet at all.....

They're definitely from a broadcast tape - the timecode and handheld TX card are giveaways. The first title sequence is from the pilot I think as it looks different to the complete episode. It's quite likely to have leaked from a digitisation project. You could drop a message to TvTimes1966 on YouTube and ask where he got them from and whether he has any more. However, it's true, there's not a lot to be found about the series online. Even the IMDB entry is fairly sparse and it gets all of 30 words in TV Cream. There were only 16 episodes in total. In terms of trying to raise interest, it's worth a try. It might be an idea to try and get something together on IMDB - the entry for the show has a forum with one post in it, but it's quite a good place to start. Talking to the BFI would help too if you could convince them that it's a piece of social history as it shows a lot of Leeds that just isn't there any more. Maybe you could even drop a line to Keith Waterhouse. These days they could probably produce a run of a thousand and sell them, certainly in Leeds if nowhere else, but it probably still comes back to ITV, and I know one of the problems that ITV has it that it has a very poor memory. The admin staff tend to be fairly young and fairly transient so there won't be many people in Network Centre who can remember that far back - it tends to be the old hand techies who know what things are, and of course they're now retiring.
