Anyone remember Brudenell Secondary School. Must have been one of the worst ever!!! Pupils went on strike in early 60's. On becoming a "1st year" first lesson we got was how not to faint during assembly. Also if you coughed, sneezed or fainted during assembly then you were given detention by Mr Curry (the headmaster) Happy Days!¬!!! I think not!!!

Hi Itsmehere! If you check back to my posting abt Brudenell SS(It's way back, halfway down PAGE ONE!),I was there in the War years 1941/44! Left at age 14 to start work! I had quite a good time there. My teachers were .Headmaster;Mr Crouch. Bit ofa tartar but very fair and got us interested inSinging and the Classics!!! 'Old Joe, Scott,Mr Barrett,Mr Coultas, Miss Robinson (Took the 'B' classes)Miss Humphrey(age 19!) for PT (and How!) . If you check backyou'll understand why I actually liked it all!Sorry it changed so much in your day!(Everything does, unfortunately!).Had a small reunion about 12 yrs ago at the BrudenellSocial club on Queens Rd, for Mr Barrett's retirement.Poor chap died a while back. He went well over the age of 65,before packing it all in! A REAL Teacher, in all our opinions.Hope this input has helped a bit,IMH?CheersArry Awk

Thanks Wiggy. The Leodis aerial photo was how I found out the school was demolished , then I read some more about it on Fr Reunited. As a child I lived in the street directly behind the Chapel, went to Sunday School and cubs there also the school used the chapel as a dinner hall. Opposite the chapel on the other side of Harehills La the school had a prefab annexe, 3 classrooms and a playground , built in the 50's to accommodate babyboomers like me. I spent 2 happy years in this annexe which I preferred to the old school building. It would be great to have some photos of the school and the Chapel.
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

stodge. wrote: Hey up, just remembered about the old building college i used to go to on east street, it looked like it was a school at one point but i don't know the name of it, it got flattened when they redirected the road.it was bang opposite the tyre garage. Hey up Stodge, I too went to that building college around 81 ish it must have been Cross Green Primary or something at a guess, but there will be someone on here that will know exactly its name.... funny I remember the Fish Hut opposite more than the Tyre fitters!

yeah i went to St. Benedicts for a year or so after our primary school burnt down. its such a shame they knocked it down, was massive from what i remember! always rememeber being told about a ballet dancer that had died on the stage or something and that the school was haunted. does anyone have any pics of the school? i've had a look online but cant find anything.
